Freda Narh and Samuel Narh, local Sacramentans, are the award-winning coauthors of two children’s books: A Kite for Melia and Milko. Freda was born and raised in Mississippi, a graduate of Ole Miss, enjoys collecting children’s books and loves being a mom to Merrit. She is also known as the “Baby Whisperer” because of her love and magical ways with babies. Samuel enjoys painting pictures with words using his stories, which are meant to touch and reach people across the world. Together, they have crafted these beautiful books that you and your children will adore!
Chasing A Spider Publishing, an independent publisher in Sacramento, California, crafts and publishes diverse picture books which tackle difficult topics in uplifting ways for children and their parents or caregivers. They released the Narhs’ first picture book, A Kite for Melia, in 2021. It deals with the grieving process in a gentle way that registers with readers of all ages.
The authors’ most recent picture book, Milko, was published in 2023 and deals with separation anxiety from a child’s perspective. In this endearing story the lead character, Milko, misses his mother who has been living in Ethiopia for a year. Each turn of the season reminds him of his mother. Freda and Samuel guide the reader to walk into Milko’s world and see how this story unfolds from the hills in Bolivia to the Mountains of Ethiopia. They show us that Milko is a story that every family can relate to, because it is a story about all of us.
A Kite for Melia was selected by Kirkus Reviews as one of the best books of 2021 and this picture book has won several awards. Milko has already received very positive reviews from Kirkus Reviews, BookLife, and LoveReading to mention but a few prominent editorial review firms.
