Can adults without kids participate?
Yes! Summer Reading is designed for all ages. We have an activity track just for adults. We want to help you achieve your reading goals too.

Can I read non-library books?
Absolutely! Any reading that you do counts towards your participation. Books you have at home, magazines, comics, ebooks, or audiobooks all count and earn you points. Also, reading to someone or being read to also counts, so if you have someone in your life that you are reading to – that counts for both of you!

No. Summer Reading is open to everyone whether they have a library card or not. If you don’t have a library card and you would like one, you can apply online or visit any Sacramento Public Library location.

We encourage you to sign up in Beanstack so that you can log your reading, choose fun activities to complete, and earn digital badges. However, you can do the entire program offline. I don't live in Sacramento. Can I still sign up?
Yes. Our Summer Reading challenge is open to anyone. If you live outside the library’s service area, however, you would need to visit a library location in order to reedeem your prizes.
