Preteen & Teen Workforce Readiness and Skill Development Programs

Program opportunities offered by the City of Sacramento for the tweens and teens in your life!

Is there a pre-teen or teen in your life? Here are some great program opportunities offered by the City of Sacramento for them to gain experience and skills that will help prepare them for the world while having FUN with their peers! Some programs even offer a stipend!



Babysitting For Beginners



The Young Leaders of Tomorrow program provides young people 10-12 years of age an opportunity to engage in interactive activities that provide them tools to problem solve day to day challenges while having fun in the process. At the conclusion of the program, participants will receive a certificate of completion along with a $350 stipend. 


Registration opens on Monday, June 17, 2024, at 10:00am

Calling all youth aged 13-17 and living within the Sacramento city limits! Get ready to embark on a journey of hands-on, engaging fun and learning activities within Prime Time Teen. This incredible program is here to help teens build a rock-solid foundation of 21st Century skills, spread good vibes through community service, and gear up for their future career success! They'll even earn a monetary stipend of $500 and certificate of completion when they complete the program. 


Registration opens on June 17, 2024, at 10:00am.

North Natomas Workforce Development Program
Are you between 13-18 years old in middle or high school and living in one of the eight apartment complexes in the North Natomas area below? Join our six-week, paid work-based learning program and earn up to $400! This program is all about giving you the skills you need for the real world while having a blast with your peers.


Who can join? (You must live in one of these eight apartment complexes*):
  • Atrium Court
  • Natomas Park
  • Terracina Gold
  • Terracina Meadows
  • The Lofts
  • Valencia Point
  • Westview Ranch
  • Willow Glen
*Proof of residency is required.


What you'll get:
  • Hands-on activities: Dive into fun, interactive sessions that teach you cool "life skills" you can use every day.
  • Critical thinking & discussions: Engage in meaningful conversations with friends and adult mentors.
  • Stipend: Earn $350 or bump it up to $400 if you join our extra workshops!

LANDSCAPE & LEARNING APPLICATIONS OPENING SOON!
The Landscape & Learning program is a workforce development program with a focus to prepare youths aged 14-17 within the City of Sacramento limits to ensure these young people have access to adequate positive opportunities, as well as to develop a ready and capable workforce with the stated region. All young people hired in this program receive specialized training and earn $16 an hour.
  • If you are 14-17, interested in joining our workforce, online applications will become available July 1, 2025.
  • If you're 21+ with a valid driver's license, keep an eye out for our Crew Leader positions reopening for the fall session by the end of July. Fall season workdays are on Saturdays and Sundays, with a starting wage of $20.99 per hour.

The WIOA program is year round program that is a strength based, paid work experience program for high school seniors that partners with local government, private business, and the retail industry. This program provides pre-employment and 21st Century skills training through adult mentors that provide comprehensive guidance and counseling, and supportive services.


***Currently recruiting high school juniors who are incoming seniors (SY 24/25). Join us to kickstart your journey towards academic success and personal growth.***


Interested students must meet the following criteria:
  • A high school senior for the School Year 24/25
  • Graduating high school, no later than June 2025
  • Eligible for a work permit
  • Low income
Must meet ONE OR MORE of the following barriers:
  • Basic skills deficient
  • English language learner
  • Offender
  • Foster care
  • Homeless, runaway, or out of home placement
  • Pregnant or parenting
  • Individual with a disability
