Sacramento is lucky to have a TON of museums right outside our back door. Whether you're a history buff, a science fanatic, or an art enthusiast there's a Sacramento Museum for you.

The Crocker Art Museum brings people together and connects them in unexpected ways with art, ideas, each other, and the world around them. Crocker hosts a variety of regularly occurring family tours and art-based programs designed to engage children in ways that spark communication, creativity, and self-expression. Their Kids + Family programs offer something for the young art lovers in your life:

Baby Loves Art

Baby Loves Art engages babies (up to 18 months old) in a visually stimulating gallery walk and gives parents and caregivers a fun opportunity to connect with their babies and each other. All baby noises are expected and welcome. Strollers are allowed, and front carriers are recommended for the best art view. Please, no backpacks or rear carriers. FREE with admission. Registration is not required for this event.

Art On the Spectrum

Children on the autism spectrum or with other developmental differences are invited to a special morning at the Crocker with their siblings and caregivers. Starting before public hours, drop in to enjoy a variety of art explorations including mindful art activities, tactile artmaking, music, and gallery walks. The program is designed to offer families an opportunity to relax and connect through art while building a sense of community for all those affected by autism spectrum disorders. Social narratives, noise-canceling headphones, and a quiet space ensure the program provides a supportive environment. Ages: 3+ with accompanying adults. Space is limited and advance registration is recommended.

Kids and Co. Gallery Adventures

This family-friendly tour is the perfect way to introduce art to children ages 5 and older and the adults who tag along with them!  Come back every month for a totally new experience. Ages 5+ with accompanying adults. FREE with admission. Registration is not required for this event. 

Summer Family Fridays

Kick off your weekend with family-friendly artistic exploration designed for a range of ages and learning styles. Enjoy creative artmaking, lively performances, and multisensory activities in the Crocker’s outdoor courtyard and studio class spaces. Meet new friends and connect with your loved ones over take-home projects, sing-alongs, and cool treats. Ages 3 – 12 with accompanying adults.

The SMUD Museum of Science and Curiosity invites visitors of all ages to learn about science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM) in a fun and engaging environment.

This is a place where you’re allowed to question everything and find solutions to challenges in many ways. By igniting imagination, creativity and curiosity, we provide the building blocks for you to put on your thinking caps, solve problems and learn new skills!

The Aerospace Museum of California celebrates the history of aviation and aerospace and inspires future generations of explorers.

With interactive STEM exhibits and hundreds of artifacts on site, aerospace fans of all ages can explore and pilot their own adventure!

Agriculture Museum

FREE admission for all!

The California Agriculture Museum & Event Center is home to the nation’s most unique collection of tractors and artifacts.  Interactive exhibits and special events tell the history of farm to fork, dating back to the Gold Rush era.  Hear local storytellers boast of how California food producers did things bigger and better.  California evolved from horse drawn, to steam driven, to fuel powered machines.  Galleries and corridors wind you by harvesters, wheel and crawler track-type tractors, combines, trucks, art and photo galleries. The kid’s zone is designed to bring families back to a simpler time when play depended on your imagination.


Sojourner Truth Museum

Adult entry is $4, children 12 and under are free.

Our mission is to open minds and change lives through the exploration and celebration of African American history, experiences and culture through art education and outreach. 


Sacramento Children's Museum

Admission is $10, children under 1 are free.

Our mission is to spark a passion for life-long learning. We will accomplish our mission by providing a place where children are encouraged to think for themselves, expand their problem-solving abilities through creative exploration, and exercise both their bodies and their minds.


Sacramento History Museum

History Awaits! The Sacramento History Museum is located in the heart of Historic Old Sacramento.  We are located next to the beautiful Sacramento River and two buildings away from the California State Railroad Museum.  We are also minutes away from fine and family dining, shopping, and entertainment. Sutter's Fort

Admission is currently free during roof replacement!

Located in the heart of Midtown Sacramento, Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park has been part of the California State Park system as a Living History Museum since 1947, and is both a California Historical Landmark and a National Historic Landmark.  Set in 1846, Sutter’s Fort preserves important California history and tells the story of the many cultures that inhabited Sutter’s Fort and the surrounding areas during the 1840’s — including Mexican citizens of Alta California, the emigrating European and American pioneers, and Native Americans. Sutter’s Fort has many areas to explore, including the Carpenter Shop, Vaquero Room, Gunsmith, Blacksmith, Distillery, Kitchen, Bakery, Weaving room, Beehive Oven, and the Cooper’s Shop.

Stand in the shadow of a 150-year-old, 40-ton monument to innovation, engineering and history. Take a ride along the rails that played a key role in the development of the Golden State. See the history of the California railways come to life in engaging exhibits. A visit to the California State Railroad Museum is a not-to-be-missed experience for persons of all ages.


Sacramento Regional Fire Museum

The Pioneer Mutual Hook and Ladder Society/Sacramento Regional Fire Museum is, dedicated to the preservation of fire service history in the Sacramento Region, by collecting, restoring significant artifacts, documents, equipment and other historical pieces for preservation and display, and providing education to the public on fire safety and the fire service in general, by conducting educational programs of its own or partnering with other fire service organizations.
